The Netherlands is arguably both the most civilized and most alternative
nation on the planet. By the most civilized, I mean that the widest range of
human expression is tolerated most peacefully. This may be the result of
being forced to develop strategies of getting along with one another since
they are one of the most densely populated countries in Europe, if not the
world. But since they have been successful in incorporating being progressive
into their culture as a norm, it is therefore by definition no longer
alternative. The result is that a counter-cultural identity is no longer
necessary or perhaps even useful. So, the Netherlands is one of the least
focalized nations in Europe, though it is likely the most focused. The
Netherlands is not a particularly big country, try to find the Balloon Company
and visit their annual Landjuwel festival; I can't seem to locate their
address just now.
