Online Resources for Rainbows

There are several ways of getting at the info we've collected on the Rainbow Gatherings and of accessing our collection of Legal resources and government documents. Below is a list various ways of accessing the info.

EMAIL

There is an email based discussion group called alt.gathering.rainbow. Each single email message sent to this email address gets sent to all subscribers on our list. This is the simplest way of discussing Rainbow-oriented issues with others, and seeing fun messages on the latest regionals.

TO SUBSCRIBE to the email version of alt.gathering.rainbow, go to the Mailman page for the email list, which is called AGR.

TO POST a message to the email version (which will also be gatewayed into the newsgroup) send your message to agr@agr.welcomehome.org.

News

On the internet there are over 3,000 discussion groups called Usenet news groups or sometimes just netnews. Among these there are several groups of interest, mainly alt.gathering.rainbow. If you currently have a newsreader like nn, trn, or trumpet just subscribe to the alt.gathering.rainbow news group. Most popular web browsers also have support for reading newsgroups. This news group is just a gateway from the email based list, although stuff posted to the news group eventually finds it's way back on the email version, and vice versa

There is a discussion list with an email<->news gateway that has many people subscribed to it. Recently do to various reasons, there have been alot of changes going on amongst web based newsreaders. Remarq no longer exists, and recently DejaNews has been bought out by Google, where you can do a search still. Two other web based newsreaders that have access are NewsOne and Usenet Replayer (which has a really bizarre GUI). If you have a newsfeed, (ask your ISP) you can access AGR by just subscribing to the newsgroup alt.gathering.rainbow. You can also switch to the email side of the gateway, directions on subscribing are on the Access FAQ.

WEB (World Wide Web/WWW)

The Web is the best in easy-to-use technologies for accessing information. It's a hypertext based, shoot and click interface called mosaic, or netscape that runs on Mac's, WinDoze 3.1, or UNIX machines. This is the preferred way of accessing info because it supports multimedia. This lets us make photos, movies, and sounds available as well as the regular files.

The Rainbow WelcomeHome page has a large collection of articles on Rainbow Gatherings, photos of various Annual and regional gatherings, notes on councils, and lists of potlucks and drum circles. Think of it as an electronic newsletter. The Legal Eagles Home Page has all our press releases and other documents relating the Boulder Police department's Zero Tolerance policy against the homeless. This page also has an outstanding collection of URL's of other sites. We also have access to most of the good search engines for internet based info, and lots of links to government document archives.
